Rails Day badge

7 x 24 = 168 hours

Got the ‘Getting Real’ groove? If so, your possibly on hyper-drive pushing to get your web app live. Like my mate Andrew expressed, ‘quite frankly I feel like I need to launch 10 web apps within the next 10 minutes or I’m going to explode’.

The day gets dark quickly. Unless you have funding you are probably working other jobs to pay the bills. There’s family & friends who may not appreciate the time your pouring into your venture. So it’s essential you have a structured, meticulous approach to time management when it comes to building web apps.

If your like me your week probably consists of 168 hours. Reflect on the week just past. How did you spend your 168 hours? If you find it hard to remember how you spent your time, may be it’s time to think about the week ahead.

Starting now, try making a note of how many hours you spend on the various tasks that make up your lifestyle – sleeping, working on your web app, working on paying the bills, commuting, avoiding being stabbed, relaxing, socializing, learning Ruby on Rails, blogging, eating, checking out digg.

Then 168 hours from now, you’ll be able to look back on your week & see where those hours went.

This way you can get a better perspective on how valuable your time is. It’s the first step to making the most of it.

If too many of your waking hours are being spent on things that aren’t making your life better then it’s time to make a change… but take it easy. Just remember Bob Dylan himself said, “Jesus, who has time to keep up with the time?”
